Germany and Romania – preferred for business collaboration
A survey conducted by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) in March 2026 shows that Bulgarian companies continue to focus on exporting goods as their preferred form of international cooperation. In addition, firms show interest in exchanging best practices and exploring innovation opportunities.
Around 31% of respondents plan to increase their visits abroad despite geopolitical instability, while 27% will make shorter trips and 23% expect to travel less. Trade fairs and B2B meetings remain the most effective ways to establish business contacts, although digitalization and online platforms are gaining popularity and providing access to a wider audience.
The top 15 preferred business countries are: Germany, Romania, Turkey, Switzerland, Italy, the United Kingdom, Norway, China, Greece, Serbia, Egypt, South Africa, Sweden, Japan, and Austria.
The most preferred business destinations are Germany and Romania (37% each), followed by Turkey (35%), Switzerland (31%), and Italy (24%). Romania continues to be a highly preferred partner, showing increased interest from companies – from 32% in 2025 to 37% in 2026. Turkey remains an important partner due to its strategic location. The sectors attracting the most B2B interest are machinery and equipment, food and beverages, and services.
The survey highlights that companies are moving toward more targeted forms of partnership, such as corporate events, one-on-one meetings, and business delegations, with online tools seen as an effective complement to traditional trade fairs.
