Nicușor Dan Becomes President of Romania After Historic Second-Round Comeback
Nicușor Dan has been elected President of Romania with 53.6% of the votes cast in the second round of the 2025 presidential election. The independent candidate secured a total of 6,168,642 votes, defeating George Simion, who received 5,339,053 votes, or 46.41%.
This victory marks a major political comeback, as Dan managed to overturn the first-round deficit through a strong campaign and significant voter mobilization. He ultimately won the presidency with a margin of 829,589 votes.

- George Simion: 46.41% – 5,339,053 votes
Total votes cast: 11,507,695
Attendance: 64.72%
Voting patterns differed abroad, where George Simion emerged as the favorite among Romanian citizens living overseas. He received 912,553 votes (55.86%), while Nicușor Dan obtained 720,996 votes (44.14%), giving Simion a diaspora lead of 191,557 votes.
Despite Simion's advantage abroad, Dan’s broad support at home proved decisive. His win cements his place in Romanian political history as one of the few independent candidates to ever claim the presidency.
