The digital twin of the Buzludzha with first recognition for innovation
The digital twin of the Buzludzha monument, created in partnership between Tornado Studio and the “Buzludzha Project” Foundation, received its first official recognition for innovation. The project was awarded at the prestigious INNOVISION AWARDS 2026 with a special prize for contribution to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The award was presented to the “Buzludzha Project” Foundation and Tornado Studio by Mihail Petrov, jury chairman and CEO of Schwarz Digits Bulgaria, during an event that gathered over 150 representatives of business, the technology community, academia, the startup ecosystem and the non governmental sector.
Virtual experience of the history, architecture and future of Buzludzha
One of the highlights of the program was the presentation of the virtual tour of the digital twin of the monument. The project was presented by architect Lyubomira Momcheva Petrova, Project and Partnerships Coordinator at the “Buzludzha Project” Foundation, and Stanislav Dimitrov, Program Director at Tornado Studio.
The project shows how modern technologies can be used not only for visualization, but also for active preservation, presentation and experience of cultural memory. Through a web based interactive experience, visitors will be able to explore the monument in different temporal and conceptual dimensions.
Main functionalities of the digital twin of the monument. The interactive experience includes:
- walk in the current state of the monument
- historical walk presenting its past vision
- Future Configurator with 9 different future scenarios
- Flight Mode for bird’s eye view
- interactive map for planning a trip to Buzludzha
- audio guides with visual content and QR codes
- feedback form integrated into all parts of the experience
Technology in support of cultural heritage
The goal of the project is to make the history, architecture and future ideas for Buzludzha more accessible, engaging and understandable for a wide audience both in Bulgaria and worldwide.
Public access to the digital experience is expected later this summer.
