The major repair of the Friendship Bridge will be completed on June 30
The major repair of the Danube Bridge at Ruse will be completed at the end of June. This marks the end of the most extensive rehabilitation of the facility since its commissioning in 1954.
The construction and installation works began on July 10, 2024, and were carried out in stages. Road panels were replaced, joints and sections of the steel structure were repaired, as well as the entire road surface on the Bulgarian side of the bridge.
In parallel with the completion of the repair works, new facilitations for travelers are being introduced. On the Romanian side, an electronic toll payment system has already been implemented, allowing drivers to pay online in advance without waiting at cash desks.
For vehicles with prepaid tolls, two fast lanes have been designated. In these lanes, the system automatically recognizes the vehicle registration number and the barrier opens without additional checks, significantly reducing waiting times and minimizing queues during peak periods.
