Lawyer Gugushev: There are positive signals for our Schengen membership.

The Chairman of the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce, lawyer Viktor Gugushev, commented on Bloomberg TV's "Business Start" program about the prospects of Bulgaria and Romania’s membership in Schengen, ahead of the upcoming vote by the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council on the removal of land borders.

He discussed the negative factors in the situation, such as the land border control imposed by Germany to counter illegal immigration flows, and the rise of the far-right in Austria. However, he also emphasized the positive signals indicating that full membership for both countries will soon become a reality. A major hope in this regard comes from Viktor Orban’s statement, in which he firmly supported the full membership of both countries in Schengen and stated that this would be one of the key goals of Hungary's EU presidency.

The conversation touched on current ideas such as removing borders between Bulgaria and Romania to facilitate easier communication and exchange, as well as the construction of new bridges and road infrastructure to strengthen connectivity between the two countries.
